When you can't find any recovered sheet of your data. You can manually check at path:C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\Where you can find folder with your excel file name and your recovered excel worksheet is in it.

the manage versions does not show any other versions and when going to the folder of recovered files, its empty . Why this is so? There are even topics on Microsoft's forums that discuss this, and the usual answer is to use OneDrive.However, the auto-save feature just needs a folder on your computer, and you can easily specify your local Dropbox folder.
